Solarlux bifold doors create a smooth transition between inside and outside, with large glass spans that can be opened across almost 100% of their area.

Unlike traditional sliding doors, which can leave a large section of the opening covered by glass even when fully open, the panels of a bifolding door fold up like a concertina, creating a slender stack on one or both sides of the aperture, creating wide, uninterrupted views and maximising natural light. They are ideal for both residential and commercial spaces – anywhere that open-plan living and flexible access to gardens, patios or terraces is desired, including patios, kitchen extensions and dining areas.

Made-to-measure bifold doors

Solarlux bespoke bifold doors can be designed to suit any project requirements. Options include:

Insulated or non-insulated bifold doors, with Uw-values as low as 0.8 W/m²K
Wood or aluminium frames with slim sightlines
A choice of 30 RAL colours as standard, plus dual-colour finishes
Flexible configurations, including inward or outward opening, left and/or right stacking and open corners
Floor track options suitable for standard or accessible thresholds

Where required, bifold doors can be specified with special coatings that provide extra protection in demanding environments, such as coastal locations.

Thermal performance	Our bifold doors can include thermally broken frames that are designed to reduce heat loss and maintain comfortable indoor temperatures.
Acoustic performance	Depending on the specification, Solarlux bifold doors can provide sound reduction of up to 45 dB.
Security	With options such as multi-point locking systems and reinforced profiles, our bifold doors can meet RC2 or RC2N security standards. PAS 24 certification is also available.
Weather resistance	Solarlux bifold doors feature high-quality seals and precision-engineered profiles. They offer tested resistance to wind up to Class B4, air permeability as low as Class 3 and water tightness up to Class 9A.

A tradition of excellence in bifold doors

For 40 years, Solarlux has stood for outstanding quality, design, materials and manufacturing. The company started with an idea when two ambitious entrepreneurs, Heinz Theo Ebbert and Herbert Holtgreife, created the concept for the world’s first modern bifolding door system – sketched on a beermat.

Within a couple of years, their idea of a folding glass wall for balconies became a reality and transformed the way large openings can be designed. These bifold doors provided versatile glazing for large openings and slender profiles, ensuring smooth transitions between inside and outside.

Consistency and tradition are key to any business's success, and today, Solarlux is run by a new generation, Herbert’s son, Stefan, and the company has over 1,000 employees worldwide.
