Threshold height 10 mm: Easy to drive over

Barrier-free floor tracks with a threshold height of just ten millimetres are available for Solarlux aluminium Bi-fold door systems. This means that Solarlux already meets the future requirements of DIN EN 18040, which will become binding as part of the planned harmonisation with the new DIN EN 17210 standard. The new floor tracks thus enable barrier-free living with a folding patio door whose wide opening allows full freedom of movement.

A total of five variants – including two minimal floor tracks – offer solutions for a wide range of structural requirements.

With the new ‘Smart 10’ floor track generation for Bi-fold doors, Solarlux already meets the future standards for level transitions in accordance with DIN EN 17210. The threshold height is now only ten millimetres, without compromising on tightness or safety. In addition, the floor tracks can be adapted to existing structural conditions with either sloping or horizontal ramps, creating a completely barrier-free transition between the floor and the track.

The standard: DIN EN 17210

National standards must not conflict with European regulations. It is therefore only a matter of time before DIN 18040 ‘Barrier-free construction – Planning principles’ is adapted to the requirements of the new DIN EN 17210 ‘Accessibility and usability of the built environment – Functional requirements’. Once it comes into force, this standard will create a uniform basis for barrier-free construction throughout Europe for the first time. One of the key changes is that the maximum permissible height difference for door thresholds will be reduced to ten millimetres – previously it was twenty millimetres. In addition, barrier-free thresholds must be bevelled or rounded in future. These requirements apply to the planning, construction and furnishing of barrier-free flats, residential buildings and their outdoor facilities. Another important point is the linguistic clarification: the term ‘threshold-free’ is replaced by ‘level transitions’ in order to avoid unclear or absolute formulations.
