Thermal Efficiency

The most commonly used measurement of thermal efficiency in bi-fold doors is U-value. This measures a bi-fold doors thermal transmittance and its unit of measurement is W/m²K. The lower the value, the better a product is at retaining heat. Bi-fold doors from a well-known brand in the UK can achieve a U-value of 1.2 W/m²K, whereas Solarlux bi-fold doors, such as the Highline model, can achieve a U-value as low as 0.8 W/m²K.

The profile of our bi-fold door holds the key to its thermal efficiency. A multi-functional thermal break does more than just keep your home a comfortable temperature. This expertly crafted feature houses the locking mechanism and gives the door strength, allowing you to move panels weighing more than 17 stone (110 kg) with a little more than a gentle push.

Opening and Sightlines

“Sightline” is a term that will come up repeatedly when comparing the best bi-fold doors available on the market. A sightline is the gap between the two panes of glass in the door. The slimmer the sightline, the more light that is allowed into the room. One of the UK’s well-known bifold door brand can offer a sightline of 110mm.

Our doors, such as the Ecoline model, offer a sightline of 99mm, giving you practically unobstructed views of the outside world. Solarlux bi-fold door panels can also be folded into a slender bundle when open. Customise the door to your home by choosing the number of glass panels, the door’s folding direction (left or right) and even if they open in or out.
