cero – Houses of the Year Award

cero - Product of the Year 2020 – “Houses of the Year” Award: Jury awards prize to cero by Solarlux

cero by Solarlux has been crowned “Product of the Year” at the “Houses of the Year 2020” awards. The high-end sliding window impressed the jury for the “Windows” category with its clean design and the wide range of functions it offers, which make it an all-round package.

The “Product of the Year” award was presented for the first time last year as part of the “Houses of the Year” competition, and is a collaboration between the Callwey Verlag publishing house and the German Architecture Museum. This year’s prize was awarded to Solarlux for its cero sliding window.

Almost completely frameless, the cero reinforces the impression of the indoors and the outside merging together. Its concealed frame profiles, accessible floor track and 34 mm profile sight lines give it an aesthetically pleasing and timeless feel.

cero creates a unique sense of openness in a room thanks to individual sliding elements that can reach up to six metres in height and make up a total area of 15 m². All in all, the system is made of 98% glass and offers a huge 98% daylight transparency.

Outstanding engineering

Cero offers every possibility required for architecturally demanding buildings from a creative point of view. For projects with large glass fronts that need to be able to open as wide as possible, a combination of one, two and three-track systems can be used. cero’s system components can be combined with both sliding and fixed elements as well as slide-away corners, and offer an astounding degree of creative freedom in terms of design that makes them suitable for any floor plan.

The minimalist ethos is maintained even in projects with extra-large glass elements, as the profile joint is always just 34 mm. cero combines thermal insulation suited to passive house standards, excellent wind load and water tightness certifications and outstanding RC3-class anti-burglary protection all in one system, making it a multifunctional sliding window that is suitable for use in any kind of building.

Its sophisticated running mechanism allows the user to move sliding elements that weigh up to 1000 kg by hand with no problem at all. A motorised variant is also available, offering fully automatic operation including electromechanical locking and unlocking.

For the tenth time, the Callwey Verlag publishing house has announced its awards for the “Houses of the Year – The Best Detached Houses” in collaboration with the German Architecture Museum (DAM) and its partners: The Concrete Information Centre (InformationsZentrum Beton), Interhyp, Atrium/Das IDEALE HEIM, Austrian public service broadcaster ORF, “Baumeister” magazine and architektur.aktuell. The impressive jury selected 50 projects to award, from a total of 150 submissions.
