Prora, a place steeped in history: Formerly planned by the Nazi regime as a KdF seaside resort on Rügen but never completed, the former 4.5 km long building block served as an NVA barracks for decades during GDR times. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the imposing complex gradually fell into disrepair and was probably the most famous ruin in Germany for decades.
In the 90s, there was slow progress with the site, and the Museum Mile was established. In 2011, after the Prora Documentation Centre, the youth hostel finally moved in. From 2012 onwards, some apartment blocks were sold to investors. To this day, some blocks have fallen into disrepair.
