Acubis – Wales

Natural beauty

Its connection with nature is what gives architecture life. After all, nothing else is as changeable as the atmosphere created by a landscape, the water and the horizon.

Locations at the heart of Mother Nature have a unique appeal, offering freedom from the enclosed spaces of civilisation and relief from hectic everyday life. Rhosneigr is a small village on the Welsh coast surrounded by forests, fields and water – the perfect place to be inspired by nature. Of course, the best place to find inspiration is somewhere with a variety of views that brings the diversity of the landscape to life.

On a wooden jetty by the lake of Llyn Maelog stands a glass cube that offers views of the sea, the lake and the green forests that surround it. With its delicate aesthetic and frameless glass elements, it is an unostentatious addition to the countryside. It allows the natural surroundings to speak for themselves, looking out onto spellbinding panoramas in every direction and offering a unique sense of space defined by the landscape.

Solarlux Acubis Wales

The cubic glass house is a Solarlux Acubis. Its internal structural reinforcement lends it a subtle elegance, and when built as a stand-alone unit it becomes a completely independent space. Since the landscape is so flat and the sea breeze blows unabated against the glass cube, extra structural reinforcement was required for this application. Steel reinforcement in the rafters and pillars provides the necessary stability, while the vertical panes provide shelter from draughts and the rain. In order to allow the occupants to enjoy the full effect of the sun on calmer days, the elements on all four sides can be opened up to turn the glass cube into a free-standing canopy.
