A dream of glass and stone

The pool house – a refuge in green

The exposed location alone rendered it necessary to keep the area around the new pool house as open as possible so as not to obstruct the stunning views. The property is located among the offshoots of the Teutoburg Forest, on the edge of a conservation area. The pool landscape is designed to be an island of wellness in this sea of green. A collection of small bushes and trees are the only signs marking the limits of the property, thus allowing for unobstructed views that draw the eye to the distant horizon.

This sense of space was precisely what the owner was looking to achieve when she decided to add a pool and adjoining pool house to her multi-hectare property. In the pool house, a solid, concrete brick wall meets the straight lines and delicate architecture of the Acubis glass canopy. It also comes with a clever twist, as the stones conceal a shower and the technology used to power and maintain the pool – the other three sides of the glass canopy are left completely open.

Due to the exposed location, side glazing has been added to the canopy to provide shelter from the wind. And if the sun gets too strong, awnings under the window and on the side panels give the owner shade to keep cool. Tasteful lighting in the rafters and around the edges of the pool provides a pleasant ambience when the sun goes down.
