Façade modules for energy-efficient renovations

Light-flooded living spaces and a place in the sun that can be used almost all year round: glazed balconies are right at the top of tenants' and buyers' wish lists. Optimum sound insulation, perfect weather protection and maximum flexibility of use of the balcony not only increase the attractiveness of the property, but also pay off economically. Glazing balconies and loggias also makes a lot of sense from an energy point of view. Especially if the modules used are thermally insulated.

To this end, Solarlux has combined custom-made bi-folding doors with a curtain wall module as a parapet element to provide the best possible support for the energy-efficient refurbishment of existing properties. The bi-folding door not only makes an important contribution to thermal separation, but also retains the balcony character thanks to the flexible opening.

Efficient modular solution

The modular system combines a balustrade element with a bi-folding door to form a fixed unit. The module can be delivered to the construction site as a prefabricated unit to glaze loggias, for example. As a curtain wall, it is also suitable for closing the entire façade. The flexible solution variants predestine the thermally insulated system for use in serial and energy-efficient renovations as well as in modular construction. The triple glazing enables optimum Uw values of 1.1 for increased requirements for an energy-efficient building envelope. Depending on requirements, the module is manufactured as a fixed unit with a circumferential profile frame and integrated sill profile for surface-mounted installation or with a separate circumferential frame profile as a front-mounted construction. All module solutions can be optionally equipped with PV in the parapet.

ATTRACTIVE AND EFFICIENT

The complete system significantly improves the energy balance and offers a fully-fledged continuation of the external thermal insulation composite system.

  • Fixed module unit with all-round frame
  • Individual configuration of size, sash and opening variants
  • Visually appealing solution with integrated drainage
  • Maximum thermal insulation with triple insulating glass
  • Short installation times thanks to modular design
  • Convenient cleaning fitting
  • Balcony character retained

Maintain balcony character

When closed, the thermally insulated folding glass wall achieves solar gains during the cooler months of the year, effectively saving heating costs. To ensure that the balcony, as part of the thermally insulated façade, can be experienced as an outdoor space in the summer months, the bi-folding door can be opened completely at the front and parked at the side to save space. Each individual balcony thus becomes a genuine extension of the existing living space.

Façade renovation with curtain module

The Berlin residential building in Marienbader Strasse is an example of the major refurbishment task of housing stock from the 1950s to 1970s, which are often among the “worst-performing buildings”. With its poorly insulated façade and heterogeneous tenant/owner situation, the project is an example of how pragmatism and individual requirements can be reconciled. Together with Solarlux, the architect created an efficient solution for façade renovation using a curtain module.
