Regular air circulation is important for your wintergarden, too

Good insulation will make your wintergarden a living space you can enjoy all year round. But just like any other room in you house, this also means it will benefit from regular air circulation.  Thanks to intelligent technology, high-quality glass extensions can now do this more or less by themselves.

Before we start, let’s get one thing clear: a little condensation on your windows now and then is nothing to worry about. Water can collect quickly on window panes and profiles, especially when they experience sudden fluctuations in temperature. Warm, humid air will cool off more quickly on these surfaces, causing water to settle on them. But all you need to do to solve this is open the windows to let the air out. If damp spots are forming regularly, however, this will enable mould to spread more quickly. Airing out your home with help with this, and is a natural way of making sure that mould spores don’t get chance to settle.

Well-designed extensions provide opportunity for air to circulate

Because warm air is less dense than cold air, it is lighter and rises to the top of any given space. It is also able to retain more moisture than cold air. Wintergardens are perfectly designed to handle this, with plenty of features in the roof area to help you air them out. Modern wintergardens with high-quality glazing such as those made by Solarlux offer excellent impermeability and thermal insulation. They are technologically sophisticated, individually designed and made to measure – all of which means they offer excellent air circulation.

Thanks to an automated control system combined with modern sensors, Solarlux’s wintergardens can be aired out regularly with almost no effort on the part of the owners. The sensors constantly monitor the humidity in the room based on a programmable value – generally speaking, this should be set somewhere between 40 and 60 percent. When the humidity is too high, the control unit automatically opens windows to air out the wintergarden. Modern systems also respond quickly to fluctuations and will close the windows again promptly in case of sudden heavy winds or showers.

Rooms shouldn’t be left to cool down

To round off, here’s a little tip you might find especially helpful when temperatures are fluctuating as the seasons shift: keeping the temperature in your wintergarden at a constant level will also help to prevent condensation. This means you should avoid switching off the heating when the temperature outside is cold – even if you’re not going to be at home for a few days. Your wallet will also thank you for this, as keeping the temperature in a room constant uses less energy than letting it cool down and then heating it up again later.
