All-glass facade solution

Balcony glazing comes with numerous benefits: it keeps out the wind and rain and acts as sound insulation, resulting in a pergola that can be used almost all year round. A transparent glass front even provides an unobstructed view of the outdoors and fulfils all the requirements of modern facade design. This is why Solarlux has brought out a new, all-glass solution: the SL plus balcony balustrade.  

The new, all-glass balustrade has internal posts anchored in its floor plate, thus negating the need for a wall joint or a rail that would run across the glass, obstructing the view. The continuous glazing, which is held in place by horizontal bolt profiles, is only interrupted by the joints between the individual panes of glass – making it the perfect solution for an elegant glass front. It also has no restrictions in terms of length, so it offers plenty of creative freedom in terms of design.

When combined with Solarlux’s frameless sliding and slide-and-turn systems, this product creates a uniform, all-glass facade aesthetic without impinging on the ability to open and close the panels. In order to provide a complete solution for architects and planners, the structural specifications have been tailored to this exact configuration. Wind loads, which are especially important for high storeys, are deflected along the balustrade by the moving glazing. As such, the structural performance of the balustrade complies with the DIN EN 1999-1 standard on the design of aluminium structures. Solarlux’s wind load calculations are based on the figures provided in standard DIN EN 1991-1-4.

Like the balcony glazing, the new glass balustrade is also effective at reducing noise, providing sound insulation up to 22 dB depending on the system. As such, this solution is particularly well-suited to use in inner-city residential buildings. Another benefit of the SL Plus balustrade is that the glass is always great to look at and easy to clean. This makes the Solarlux product the perfect durable facade solution.
