The bi-folding door – Product of the Year 2019

Product of the Year 2019

Moving, accessible and with award-winning design: Solarlux’s bi-folding door has been named “Product of the Year” in the “Houses of the Year – The Best Detached Houses 2019” competition. The jury for the Windows category of the award was impressed by its elegant aesthetic and technological flair, and especially by its wide range of potential applications.

The Callwey publishing house has recently named its best detached houses in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. But this year’s competition also brought in new contestants: in addition to the houses themselves, awards were also presented in 14 categories of product relating to construction and residential living. Solarlux’s bi-folding door emerged as the winner in the Windows category.

In the same breath, the jury highlighted the bi-folding door’s wide range of applications – it can be configured to suit the situation, making each individual bi-folding door one of a kind. It is available in aluminium, wood or a combination of wood and aluminium. All of this makes the bi-folding door such a chameleon that it can be made to suit any type of building or living situation. It can be used as an alternative to a patio door or traditional window, as a substructure element in a wintergarden, or as an accessible solution for commercial buildings. Whatever the project, a bi-folding door always provides an elegant solution.

The “Houses of the Year – The Best Detached Houses” competition was born in 2019 as the result of a collaboration between the German Architecture Museum (DAM) and its partners: The Concrete Information Centre (InformationsZentrum Beton), Hofquartier, the Association of Private Builders (VPB) and “Baumeister” magazine. Around 50 of the 180 projects that were submitted this year received an award. The DAM in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, will be exhibiting the individual projects and work until 24 November.
