A pedestrianised, environmentally friendly office and residential complex with 387 flats, a nursery and numerous offices and commercial spaces was created at the Rathauspark in Berlin-Lichtenberg. The landmark of the complex is an office tower visible from a significant distance; this new ‘gateway to Lichtenberg’ ascends 18 storeys into the heavens.

The entire development is characterised by a high quality of life: The protected interior of the complex was consciously designed with generous dimensions and consists of inner courtyards, front gardens, playgrounds and benches, as well as environmentally friendly green spaces with a large number of mature trees.
The busy Frankfurter Allee presented the planners with significant challenges in terms of sound insulation: The areas lining this multi-lane main road were only suitable for residential development to a limited degree. The solution was elegant balcony glazing as sound insulation, as it did not mar the high-quality aesthetic of the facade. SL 25 XXL balcony glazing from Solarlux was the obvious choice. It can help reduce noise emissions by up to 22 dB, keeping residents’ homes quiet and peaceful.

In addition to the high level of technical functionality, the architects value the design of the noise-reducing building components. The slender, horizontal aluminium profiles from which the panes of glass are suspended at the top and guided at the bottom lend the elements their elegant look. Forgoing vertical profiles entirely creates greater transparency. The nature of the materials also played an essential role in the planners’ choice of balcony glazing.
